Atlantic City, NJ

Joe DeStefano and his team aboard the Chaser, a 1989, Mako 21, tallied an impressive number of fluke and striped bass to win the TOP MAKO BOAT award at the first-ever Mako Owners Fishing Funament in Atlantic City, New Jersey, August 3 – 5.  The event, held in conjunction with the Bass Pro Shops in Atlantic City, was based out of Gardner’s Basin Marina.
Most of the fleet probed the inshore waters for fluke, which were migrating from the back bays to the offshore wrecks for the summer; and some of the most impressive catches were made within the inlet, a mere two minutes from the marina. For example, Joe Gallinoto caught 16 keeper fluke to 5.5 pounds in the inlet, aboard his Mako 214, KATHY G. He won the TOP MALE ANGLER category, with his big fluke also earning him the MOST IMPRESSIVE INSHORE CATCH trophy.

TOP FEMALE ANGLER honors went to Jessica Monaco for her catches of fluke, sea bass and bluefish. She fished aboard the Nonna Ninaa Mako Pro Skiff 17.

The MOST IMPRESSIVE OFFSHORE CATCH was awarded to Harry Sinesi and his Mako 284, Pegasus, for catches of sea bass and wreck fluke.

TOP JUNIOR GIRL was 5-1/2 year old G. Mastroianni for catches of fluke and sea bass, whereas 16 year old Bailey Cafone racked upimpressive catches of fluke towin the TOP JUNIOR BOY category.

Fishing solo aboard his Mako 21 LTS, Z-Boat, and strictly with lures, Andy Steinbergs turned in an incredible performance during the June 15 – 17 Mako Owners Fishing Funament at Fort Pierce’s City Marina. He scored a personal best snook measuring 44-inches and burying a 30-lb hand scale. He also released a 36-inch tarpon, redfish, bluefish, flounder, ladyfish and jacks to take home the TOP MAKO BOAT award.
A total of 25 boats fished in the festive event, which was highlighted by flat seas and lively dockside functions and thousands-of-dollars-worth of door prizes.  Steinbergs’ monster snook was also the MOST OUTSTANDING INSHORE CATCH, whereas a 30.5-lb cobia earned Shawn Hansen the MOST OUTSTANDING OFFSHORE CATCH. Catches of amberjack, snappers and dolphin aboard the family’s Mako 231, Camille Ann, locked up the
TOP FEMALE ANGLER title for Camille DeBoben. A sailfish release and a 40-lb class barracuda was enough for Thomas Michels to claim the TOP MALE ANGLER title. Michels fished aboard the Mako 23 Castaway.
